It would appear that record sales and magazine sales do not go hand in hand.
Speaking in London recently, Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman said that despite Grammies, platinum dics and almost single-handedly saving the record industry from the recession, the issue of Vogue with Adele on the cover was one of the worst sellers ever.
"Adele is the most popular woman in the world, but one of the worst sellers we've ever had," she said, explaining "I find there has to be a relationship with the person on the cover that goes beyond how they look". This, then, would explain why the most succesful Vogue cover ever had nobody on it, just a mirrored surface so the readers could see themselves.
